forum rules clarification

#1 Post by pamak » Fri Aug 26, 2016 9:10 pm

I would like the moderators/administrators (except mdhiel who is the perpetrator in this case) to answer the following:

Is it considered okay in this forum to edit quotes of other members and try to attribute these new quotes to them?

I know that there is a lot of freedom of speech in this forum, and this is a good thing! But impersonation and false attributes of quotes is not part of "free speech" in real life and in my book. And as far as i can recall, it was either a formal or informal rule here to accurately attribute quotes. If mdhiel wants to establish a new low standard, or if I am mistaken to believe that it was not okay in this forum to use quotes and misrepresent the words of other members, I should be aware of this.

Personally, I am not interested in playing this game. There is enough absurdity in this forum, and it will be a complete madness if we establish as a valid practice the attribution of false quotes to other members. I have no problem to face multiple absurd argument from multiple people about different subjects simultaneously. But I do not find it interesting to get involved in a game of editing quotes. This is not an argument at all. This is a manufacturing of lies which can be easily verified, and for this reason I do not find it interesting. If you are okay with this, feel free to start conversations with people who have different views and have no problem with such low standards.
I have blocked mdhiel and will do the same to any person who may decide to alter my quotes in the future

I don't think there are any "forum rules" to clarify ... at least I hope not ... other than "doggie does as doggie does" ... and I don't think there are any rules for that either ...

However, I would add ... "he who stirs the pot, should expect some of the brew to splatter in his face" ... :)

If someone edits your quotes ... just call it out and let the chips fall as they may ... I believe that is how it has been done in the past ...

Are you talking as a moderator or as a simple member here?

The buck stops w/ d00g, PM him about it. When he finds out that mdiehlio has pissed someone off he'll be shocked and saddened.

I do not like secret pm communications. I prefer to have everything open and in the clear!

I predict either way he's going to ignore it.

Deihl cannot edit or delete your posts. Only moderators can do that.

EXACTLY!

Which makes it even more frustrating because it is obvious that he cannot get away with it! And still he prefers to do it for some reason. I guess his plan is to make me feel saturated by having to respond to stupid posts

I think the best thing for everybody is me having a break from all this. It is also true that especially lately, almost every single thread in which I post something will attract so many objections about so many different and loosely or totally unrelated subjects, that the whole discussion becomes a mess. I can take part of the blame since I choose to respond to everybody and steer the conversation to different paths. And as I said, I do not have a problem to do this because even absurdity can be interesting. But having to talk about fake quotes which are clearly manufactured is just boring!
